How to Organize a Bachelorette Party

You have been nominated, elected, (or crowned if you prefer) to be the Maid of Honor for your best friend's wedding, and you know what that means, don't you? No, silly girl, that does not mean an ugly dress (okay it does), it means that you get to organize the Bachelorette party for her. First things first, know your friend and know what she will like and what she will loathe and plan accordingly.

If your friend is a reserved, refined type, then don't plan on having a male stripper and sex toy decorations- she will be embarrassed and will not have a very good time. On the other hand, if your pal is a swinging, wild child, don't pull out the Mozart and afternoon tea and expect her to accept it in good graces- her response will probably be less than lady like, and honey, that is NOT her pinky she just stuck up in the air at you.

The key to any good party is organization. Plan for any and all possible foul ups and always have some sort of Plan B to put into action at the last moment if that is necessary. The first step is out of the way, you know what style of party you are going to have (appropriate to the bride's taste and personality) and that should narrow down the other factors as well. No one will feel comfortable playing naughty Bachelorette games in the basement of the church on a Sunday afternoon, nor will the tea swilling, Mozart blasting gals enjoy waiting until midnight to get their dirge on. Certain types of events should just be held at certain times, period. That's two steps down. You know the type, and the relative time; now you need a venue. For that step, you will need a general idea of roughly how many people will be at this wingding. (If the bride has included underage girls in her wedding party and the party is going to be of a more adult nature, feel free to skip inviting them, but do plan another smaller event that will include them.) After you have settled on who will be invited, expect about five more or five less than your own final number and plan for both contingencies. This does not have to be a catered, all out affair, just make it memorable for everybody, especially the bride herself. Make sure that no matter what you plan, that most of the focus is on her.

Keep your menu simple- and within the theme of the party. If you are going the naughty route, serve one Vienna sausage and two mini meatballs on individual spoons, (wink, wink) or other similar play on food. Label foods with naughty, suggestive type terms and watch everyone unwind. One of the best bachelorette parties that I was ever at was a sex toy party as well- the hostess booked the party, invited the bride and her bridal party as well as some other friends and we all had a ball. The work was minimal- the company that does these parties does most of the work themselves, including running some very entertaining games, the "hostess" is only responsible for food and drink. As soon as she arrived, we put a tiara on the bride and lavished attention on her. She laughed until she cried, and then cried because she had had so much fun. Who knew that looking at some uh, well, you know would make a girl go crazy on the night before her wedding?
